My garden
Unfortunately I am still confined largely to the garden, but today I had a real treat. I was in the greenhouse and happened to glance towards the feeders and to my suprise I saw a Bullfinch on the sunflower seed feeder. In order to get my camera I had to pass the feeding station and the bird predictably flew away, but armed with my camera I sat quietly in the garden and after about 30 minutes I got my reward.
This is the first Bullfinch I have been able to photograph for the website and the first time I have seen one in the garden for about 5 years. The RSPB book "Complete Birds of Britain and Europe" confidently states; "It does not visit bird tables or feeders, but may come to gardens in spring to raid flowering fruit trees". This one obviously hasn`t read the book.
A quick update on the Blue Tit family, both parents are still busy feeding and the chicks can be heard in the box. This is the male who appears to have experimented with hair gel, but has no idea how to wash it out! He has sported this look since he first took up residence in the garden.

My garden
You may have noticed a distinct lack of updates lately; that would be because I injured my knee whilst tackling the garden renovations and have been unable to do anything other than sit! Things are improving very slowly and I hope to be able to resume my photography shortly, until then I can only manage a few shots in the garden.
It is really encouraging to see House Sparrows back in the garden.
It appears that some birds have already fledged, these young blackbirds and the Dunnock were picking up scraps from beneath the bird feeders.
I suspect this is one of the fighting Wrens I photographed earlier, to my delight, he now has a nest in the ivy which is growing up the wall of my neighbour's house. He spends alot of time on guard duty, surveying the world from his stack pipe.
I mentioned in the April update that I had a Blue Tit in one of my deck board nest boxes, I have been keeping my eye on it and it appears that the chicks have hatched as both parents are working their socks off providing food.
