It seems along time since I added a new species to the site so I was delighted to find these Redwings feasting on Holly berries adjacent to the A27. These birds seldom breed in the UK but are an abundant winter visitor.

Heavy snowfall continues to blanket the garden and the birds are in a feeding frenzy. I sat in my study window photographing the activity, some of these photos aren`t good enough to make the species pages but I thought it would be interesting to see how many I could record in a day in the garden, the answer was sixteen.

Garden
The Great Spotted Woodpecker is still a regular site in the garden but now has competition from the Starlings. The fat has been such a success that I thought it may be an idea to put the recipe on the site.
I simply took a handful of black Sunflower seeds and a handful of peanuts and whizzed them up in the food processor. I then added 250gm of wholemeal flour and finally, slowly added 250gm of lard which I had cubed, when the mixture balls round the centre of the food processor the job is done. To serve, stuff the mixture into a fatball hanger or a mesh ground feeder tray.
