My garden

The garden alterations are continuing but so far no sign of the Heron at the pond, however I did have some unusual visitors today.

It is not the first time I have had Mallards but whilst it is lovely to see them, they do make a mess of the pond.

My garden

Since returning from Spain I have found very little time for photography as the garden needed my urgent attention and I have decided to renovate the fish pond and create a larger wildlife pond. I am not the only busy creature in the garden at the moment, the birds are all preparing to raise families and are flying around with various nest building items in their beaks. I am pleased that a pair of Blue Tits have decided to use one of my nesting boxes again this year. The feeders are covered in birds, Greenfinches, Coal Tits, Great Tits and Robins on the sunflower seeds, Long Tailed Tits, and Jackdaws on the suet balls, Goldfinches on the Niger seed and Blue Tits on the peanuts. Beneath the feeders are Pigeons, Magpies, Chaffinches, Dunnocks and Blackbirds. No doubt the Heron will feature soon as I have removed the net from the pond whilst I am making the alterations.

Until this year I was very lucky if I saw a Wren in the garden, but my luck appears to have changed and for the last few days I have seen one in the garden regularly, but it appears to have caused a fight. My attention was first drawn as I stood at the back window looking down the garden and I spotted what appeared to be a bird in distress, flapping about on the path, on closer inspection I saw two Wrens locked in mortal combat. The birds were so intent on fighting that they were completely oblivious to my presence. I have never witnessed this behaviour before and can only conclude it was a territorial dispute?

A few insects are also beginning to put in an appearance and I did take the opportunity to photograph a Bee Fly resting in the sun on wall of the house.
